Fortunately, society is gradually becoming more open and tolerant of different sexual orientations. As we'll show you throughout this article, there are many types, and you're sure to find one that interests you.
To make it easier for you to understand them, we're going to present a list of the different types of sexual orientation with a brief explanation. This way you'll realize that there are more types than just the well-known heterosexual one.
1- Heterosexuality
It could be said that it is the most traditional. Heterosexuality is the attraction that one person has to another person of the opposite sex. That is, a relationship between a man and a woman.
In a way, we can define this type as the most common kind of sexual orientation in society, but it is just as valid as many others that we will show you throughout the following list.
The vast majority of religions have always considered heterosexuality the ideal, penalizing all others. Its primary objective is procreation, and for this reason, it has always been seen as the most suitable option.
2- Homosexuality
It is a type of sexual attraction directed solely towards people of the same sex. It is another well-known sexual orientation in our society, and it is gradually becoming more tolerated as society becomes more open-minded.
To give you an idea, men who are homosexual are characterized by being attracted to other men and are usually called gay. Meanwhile, women who are homosexual are those who are attracted to other women and are called lesbians.
3- Bisexuality
It is a type of sexuality more common than we might initially think.
This type of sexuality is characterized by sexual interest in both people of the same and opposite sex. Depending on the individual, they may feel more interest in people of the opposite or the same sex. And of course, this preference can change throughout life depending on their experiences.
4- Pansexuality
This is defined as when a person feels sexual attraction only towards certain people. In this case, biological sex or gender identity is irrelevant.
In this case, the difference compared to bisexuality is that pansexuality doesn't consider gender categories. It can sometimes be a little difficult to distinguish, but that's the main difference between the two.

5- Demisexuality
We can describe it as the appearance of sexual attraction towards people with whom one has managed to create a truly important emotional or intimate bond.
This means that until those bonds are established, the person feels nothing for the person next to them. But once those bonds are created, then sexual attraction begins to develop.
6- Lithsexuality
These are people who are attracted to others, but don't need their feelings reciprocated. It's a less common type than others mentioned previously, but it's worth clarifying that it does exist.
According to the latest studies, these types of people are sometimes unaware of what they are and can be confused with other types shown in this list.
7- Autosexuality
These are people who have a very strong attraction to themselves. It's worth noting that this type of sexuality is not related to narcissism.
For many people, it's a type of self-love that can make them much happier with themselves. Depending on their personality, this self-love can be combined with other types of sexuality or remain solely with this type. It's a way of nurturing self-esteem.
8- Anthrosexuality
This term refers to people who are unsure of their sexual orientation. While it may seem surprising, many people enjoy sex without being clear about their sexual orientation.
This group also includes people who do not feel the need to classify themselves into any sexual group; that is, they prefer to be free and do what interests them at any given time.
9- Polysexuality
These are people who feel attraction towards different groups of people. This attraction is usually directed towards people of different gender identities.
For some experts, polysexuality can overlap with other types such as pansexuality. But it all depends on the individual, as there are many different types of people within this category.
10- Asexuality
This type defines people who don't have a need for sexual attraction. They are people who don't usually have an interest in sex.
Furthermore, they often deny belonging to any sexual group, which is why they are called asexual.
Which type of sexual orientation is better?
Without a doubt, the answer lies within you. Fortunately, society has evolved considerably, and there's no longer any need to hide. Everyone is who they are, and we must learn to accept ourselves and others.
The important thing is that everyone feels comfortable with themselves. And remember, today you might identify with one type of sexuality, and in the future with another. As we've discussed, the first thing we need to do is accept ourselves as we are so that others will accept us. And to achieve this, we shouldn't be afraid to express our sexual orientation. After all, it's ours, and others should learn to respect it.
